Serre, Pierre, count de
(1776-1824)
   political figure
   Born in Pagny-sur-Moselle, Pierre, count de Serre served as president of the imperial court of Hamburg, Germany (1811), then of Colmar. After the abdication of napoléon i, he rallied to the Bourbons. He served as a deputy, then as president of the Chamber of Deputies (1817-18), joining the doctrinaire constitutionalists. Minister of justice in élie decazes cabinet (1818), he put through the liberal law on the press but refused a law allowing an amnesty for the banished regicides. At the Congress of Verona (1822), Serre upheld the interests of king Ferdinand vii.
